The first deal was signed between the UAE-based APEX National Investment and Israeli TeraGroup to conduct research and cooperate regarding the treatment of Covid-19 and development of a vaccine for it.
Today, the countries also established a phone link – the first concrete sign of removing the blocks. Phone calls between both landline and mobile phones become a reality in the afternoon.
The historic agreement signed between the UAE, Israel and US, will see Israel stop further annexation of Palestinian territories.
The agreement has made the UAE the third Arab country to resume active diplomatic relations with Israel, after Egypt and Jordan.
While the deal was met with delight in the US, Palestinians demonstrated against the decision and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called the agreement “a betrayal of Palestinian cause”.
Iran that is considered by many analysts as the main target of the deal seeking to further diminish Iranian influence in the Middle East, accused the UAE of making “a huge mistake”, while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not exclude suspension of ties with the UAE over the deal.
However, other states of the Gulf Region, such as Oman, Bahrain and Sudan, are expected to follow in the UAE's footsteps and establish agreements normalising relations with Israel.
