Dubai: According to the Department of Economic Development (DED), a total of 2,459 new business licenses have been issued in March 2019 – an increase of 35.4% compared to the same month last year or increase of 13.4% from February 2019. Among the new licenses issued, 58% were commercial, 39.3% professional, 0.8% industrial and 1.9% related to tourism.

Top nationalities among entrepreneurs securing new licenses in March 2019 were citizens of India, followed by Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt and China.

The increase in the amount of new businesses and vacancies is primarily related to the hosting of the world’s fair Expo 2020 which will take place in Dubai in October 2020. To celebrate its opening, the authorities of the emirate are not only planning to finish the construction of the skyscraper projected by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava which is taller than Burj Khalifa, but also to unveil a number of other buildings, projects and activities that will catch the imagination of the guests.
